4.You place a negative connotation with "internet generation hippies". So now you stand against free spirited rebellious minded thinkers using the greatest information sharing infrastructure currently known to man. The internet is quite possibly slated to save america from its own ignorance and rotting media, although its clear you haven't been using it. They need light. indirect sunlight is enough.

Bright fluorescent light for around 12 hours per day, or placing near a bright window is fine. Avoid direct sunlight. The requirement for light only comes after you birth the cakes. Prior to that, you can keep them in normal ambient room light or darkness. It doesn't matter. However, the old adage to 'keep in total darkness' during colonization is now known to be incorrect. Light has little to no effect on colonizing mycelium.
